Karnataka CM rejects BJP’s demand for KJ George’s resignation

Karnataka CM rejects BJP’s demand for KJ George’s resignation

Bengaluru: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah Friday shut down the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) saying there is no question of Bengaluru development minister KJ George resigning, after the Central Bureau of Investigation filed an FIR to investigate the death of police officer MK Ganapathy.

Siddaramaiah strongly defended George stating that the FIR filed by CBI on the directions of the Supreme Court was merely a continuation of what was filed by the Kushalnagar police station which was subsequently investigated by CID.

“George had resigned when an FIR was filed. He was taken back into the cabinet after a B report was filed and he was cleared. He is not going to resign again,” Siddaramaiah said. “BJP’s demand for his resignation was clearly politically motivated.  The filing of FIR did not warrant the resignation of George,” he added.

He further attacked the BJP stating that 20 Central and state ministers had FIRs against them and they too had to resign by the same standards, “If BJP wants George to resign then they should also ask these ministers to resign too,” Siddaramaiah said.

Taking a dig at UP CM Yogi Adityanath, he said that Yogi faced charges of attempt to murder, criminal intimidation and rioting.

“BS Yeddyurappa himself faces six cases of cheating. When CBI is closing cases against him, they have no grounds for asking George to resign,” Siddaramaiah asserted.
