Amid a dynamic and inconclusive political situation in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday reached RSS Headquarters to meet its chief Mohan Bhagwat. The meeting reportedly lasted for one and a half hour and citing sources, news agencies reported that the discussions were about the deadlock in the state following October 21 elections.
Earlier during the day, finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said that 'good news' about government formation was about to come. "A good news regarding government formation can come at any moment," Mungantiwar told reporters on Tuesday.
The meeting comes a day after Fadnavis met party chief and Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. On the same day, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar held a meeting with Congress' interim chief Sonia Gandhi.
After meeting Shah, Fadnavis said that that new government in Maharashtra will be formed soon. He, however, did not mention if the Shiv Sena would be a part of the government.
The Shiv Sena has claimed that it will not settle for anything lesser than the CM post in Maharashtra. The BJP, on the other hand, has claimed that it will form a government in the state with its CM. In the recently concluded Assembly polls, BJP won 105 seats, while its ally Shiv Sena bagged 56 seats.
While the two parties are comfortably placed to form an alliance government in the state, Shiv Sena has reminded the BJP of a 50-50 formula — the division of portfolios — the two parties reportedly agreed upon in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls.
The party has also claimed that BJP and Shiv Sena should share the CM post for 2.5 years each. 'Shiv Sena is firm on a written assurance from the BJP over power-sharing, including rotating CM's post for 2.5 years' - Raut had said.
