As uncertainty looms over govt formation in Maharashtra, Aaditya Thackeray meets Sena MLAs at Mumbai hotel

As uncertainty looms over govt formation in Maharashtra, Aaditya Thackeray meets Sena MLAs at Mumbai hotel

After Karnataka, Maharashtra became the latest state to witness resort politics with Shiv Sena MLAs being huddled to a sea-facing hotel in suburban Bandra. With Shiv Sena locked in a tussle with the BJP over who will get the chief minister post, Aaditya Thackeray met newly-elected party MLAs at a hotel in the midnight on Friday.

To save its MLAs from being poached, Sena has shifted all its 56 legislators to Hotel Rangsharda near the Bandstand in Bandra West until the current political crisis in the state is resolved.

The legislators, who are from Mumbai and different parts of Maharashtra, are expected to be at the hotel for the next two-three days.

Aditya met the MLAs and left at 1 am on Friday.

The Worli MLA-elect has been projected as the next chief minister by party leaders with party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut hinting that Aaditya Thackeray will be next Maharashtra CM.

The MLAs were shifted to the hotel after a meeting with Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray at his residence “Matoshree”.

Shiv Sena, which fought the election along with BJP, is not ready to settle for anything less than an equal share in Cabinet portfolios and the Chief Minster's post for 2.5 years.

While the BJP has emerged as the single largest party by winning 105 seats in the recently concluded Assembly polls, Shiv Sena got 56 seats in the 288-member Assembly.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut lashed out at the BJP asserting that the next CM of Maharashtra would be from his party only.

He further said that the saffron party had failed the people of Maharashtra and claimed that Sena has the numbers to make its own Chief Minister.

“We don't need to show that here, we will prove it on the floor of the House. We have alternatives, we don't speak without options and alternatives,” he said.

Meanwhile, NCP slammed Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for not keeping the promise of 50:50 formula to its ally in the state.

Congress also slammed the BJP and Shiv Sena over the delay in the formation of government in Maharashtra saying the parties are disrespecting the mandate of the people.

"BJP and Shiv Sena are hurting the governance, cause of farmers and youth in Maharashtra. They are disrespecting the mandate of the people," ANI quoted Shergill as saying.

Speaking on resort politics he said that BJP mastery of horse-trading has finally reached the step of Shiv Sena.
