Mumbai: Benchmark Sensex created a fresh record as it today settled at 33,731, driven by better-than- expected earnings by blue-chip companies.
But the NSE Nifty pulled back from record on profit- booking and ended in the negative terrain.
The 30-share Sensex after scaling an all-time high of 33,848.42 (intra-day) settled at the new high of 33,731.19, up 45.63 points, or 0.14 per cent. It breached the previous closing record of 33,685.56 and intra-day record of 33,733.71 hit on November 3.
The gauge had gained 112.34 points in the previous session on Friday.
The 50-issue NSE Nifty, which smashed all records to touch a fresh life-time high of 10,490.45 during the day, before ending down 0.70 point, or 0.01 per cent, at 10,451.80. The gauge had closed at a record 10,452.50 on November 3.
