AIMIM’s Akbaruddin Owaisi booked for July ‘hate speech’ in Karimnagar

AIMIM’s Akbaruddin Owaisi booked for July ‘hate speech’ in Karimnagar

A case was registered against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi on Friday, days after the 14th Additional chief metropolitan magistrate court directed the Telangana Police to do so.

The court’s order followed a private complaint that accused Owaisi of making a "hate" speech in July 2019 at Karimnagar in Telangana.

On November 16, the court asked the Saidabad Police to probe the complaint, file a case and report before it on or before December 23.

"A case has been registered in Saidabad Police Station following court's order against AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi for making controversial comments in a public meeting held in Karimnagar earlier. Case registered under Sections 153(A), 153(B) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and further investigation is on," said Srinivas, Circle Inspector, Saidabad Police Station.

Advocate Kashimshetty Karunasagar, who is also a petitioner in the case, had claimed that Akbaruddin Owaisi, the brother of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, made controversial statements on July 23. Bajrang Dal and VHP too had, in July, filed a police complaint against Owaisi’s statements in Karimnagar.

Meanwhile, Karunasagar said, "On Thursday, the court had ordered the Saidabad Police Station to file a case on my complaint against Akbaruddin Owaisi under Sections 153(A), 153(B) and 506 of the IPC for his controversial comments repeating his infamous '15-minute' threat at a meeting in Karimnagar and asked to file a report by December 23."

He added, "Owaisi speaking at a public meeting 'Jalsa-e-Yaade Fakhr-E-Millat (A.R)' At NN Garden Function Hall, at Karimnagar on July 23, said, 'RSS can never even think of touching us, people only scare those who get scared easily and the world is scared of those who know how to scare people off'. He further went on to refer to his 2012 remark and said, 'You know why they hate me? Because they are yet to overcome the 15 minutes comment'. This not only promotes communal disturbance but also promotes enmity between Hindus and Muslims at large."

Akbaruddin Owaisi has, however, denied making any provocative remark and added that some people were adding words to his statements in order to reap political gains.

"My speech does not constitute any offence. I have not contravened any provision of law," he had said.

In his complaint, the advocate had also urged the court to cancel Akbaruddin Owaisi's conditional bail granted to him in a case registered against him in 2012 for delivering a "hate" speech in Adilabad district.
