Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar is firmly back in party and family fold. Ajit Pawar, who had supported the Bharatiya Janata Party led by Devendra Fadnavis to form the government in the state, on Wednesday said he was with the NCP as he had not been expelled.
"I have nothing to say (right now), I will speak at the right time. I had said earlier also, I am in the NCP and I will remain in the NCP. There is no reason to create confusion," Ajit Pawar told reporters here.
As Ajit Pawar made the remarks, NCP’s Nawab Malik also confirmed that no action was planned against the party leader for supporting the BJP to form the government in the state, which lasted for only four days. Malik said NCP chief Sharad Pawar has forgotten Ajit, who is his nephew.
“In the end, he admitted his mistake. It is a family matter and Pawar saheb has forgiven him. He is very much in the party and his position in the party has not changed,” Malik was quoted as saying.
Ajit Pawar had gone to meet his uncle Sharad Pawar at his residence, 'Silver Oak', late on Tuesday night. He had then said, "It is my right to meet my leader."
The NCP MLA, who had contested and won from Pune's Baramati seat in the recently-concluded state elections, had left everyone in the party and family shocked when he took oath as the deputy chief minister early on Saturday.
Shortly before, he had joined hands with the BJP and become part of the government led by Devendra Fadnavis, who took oath as CM.
The NCP had then removed Ajit Pawar as the leader of its legislative party.
Ajit Pawar on Tuesday stepped down as Deputy CM for "personal reasons". He had not taken charge as Fadnavis deputy till then. Post that development, Fadnavis too quit stating that his government did not have majority.
Earlier yesterday, the Supreme Court had ordered the BJP-led government in Maharashtra to prove majority before 5 pm Wednesday (today).
