Chennai girl charred to death by spurned lover

Chennai: A 22-year-old girl working in an IT company war burnt alive allegedly by her 25-year-old spurned lover at Adambakkam in Chennai.

The accused, Akash, allegedly poured kerosene on Sinduja and set her ablaze at her residence in Saraswathi Street on Monday night.

According to the police, Akash, a college dropout had proposed Sinduja, which she is believed to have rejected. However, the man used to visit her family very often. Recently when he learnt that the family was looking for a groom for Sinduja, he came to their house in Saraswathi Street on Monday night and picked up a fight. In a fit of rage he took out a bottle of kerosene and set her on fire and tried to escape when the neighbours caught him and handed him over to the police,” said a police source.

Sinduja’s mother and sister also suffered injuries when they tried to save her from the flames. But she charred to death.

Her mother Renuka and sister Niveda are undergoing treatment at Kilpauk Medical College.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
