Jallikattu Protest Hero Constable Faces Disciplinary Action

A disciplinary action has been initiated against constable Mathiazhagan, of the Armed Reserve Police for supporting the jallikattu protest, by addressing the public in uniform which created flutters at Marina beach.

Eleven months, after the Jallikattu protest, Mathiazhagan, a native of Ramanathapuram has been charged with a disciplinary action.

He was posted on duty at Marina beach during the jallikattu protest for two days. He came into the limelight, when he took over the mike and addressed the gathering highlighting the agricultural issue, and
banning jallikattu.

He gained even more cheering when he critised the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not lifting the ban. He said he had represented the people from the police force in which most of them
shared the same view but never came forward to speak, as they would be called for a departmental inquiry.

His videos went viral on social networking sites and when the senior officers learnt he was addressing the gathering he was asked to get back to duty. Then the deputy commissioner of Mylapore, had assured no
action would be taken against him for expressing his views. However, six months later, he was called for a departmental enquiry.
