Madras Asks Aadhar Authorities And Prison Officials To Producer Jayalalitha’s Fingerprints

Chennai: The Madras High Court has directed the Superintendent of the Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara in Bengaluru and the Regional Officer of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to furnish the original finger prints of former Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa, by December 8.

Justice P Velmurugan gave the directive while passing further interim orders on a petition from Dr P Saravanan challenging the election of AIADMK candidate AK Bose from the Tirupparangundram Assembly constituency in the by-elections held in November 2016. Saravanan contended that the left thumb impression of Jayalalithaa had been obtained in Form A and B of the election documents without her consent and knowledge, while she was convalescing at Apollo hospitals.

The action of the Election Commission in accepting the nomination papers of Bose had materially affected his election prospects, Saravanan said.

When the matter came up for hearing today, Justice Velmurugan directed the Superintendent of Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru to produce the thumb impression of Jayalalithaa, if any, obtained at the time of receiving her as a convict after the judgment of a special court in Bengaluru, to him before December 8 in connection with the present case.

Similarly, the judge also directed the Regional Officer of UIDAI to produce Jayalalithaa’s thumb impression, if any obtained at the time of issuing Aadhaar card to her, to the court by that date.
