In a major setback to the Sasikala camp, TV channels reported sources as saying that the Election Commission on Thursday restored the ‘Two Leaves’ Symbol to the unified AIADMK under EPS-OPS faction.
AIADMK MP Maitreyan was quoted by news agency saying, “We’re waiting for the hard copy but got information from EC orally that the two leaves symbol has been allotted to us.”
According to TV reports, the party symbol has received the stamp of approval from the poll panel which rejected TTV Dhinakaran’s claim stating he doesn’t enjoy support in the party.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami while addressing a press conference in Chennai said that the Election Commission has given its judgement in our favour and we are very happy. Majority of party workers supported us.
On allegations that the judgement was awarded in their favour due to proximity with BJP, Edappadi K. Palaniswami said, “It is wrong. We had facts on our side and a majority of MLAs, MPs and party workers were with us. All these were taken into consideration.”
The decision comes two days after the Madras High Court directed the Election Commission to conduct the by-poll to late Jayalalithaa’s RK Nagar constituency before December 31.
Meanwhile, Delhi court today again pulled up Delhi Police for not filing a supplementary chargesheet against TTV Dinakaran in the two leaves symbol bribery case and asked the latter to file status report within two weeks, according to a news agency.
