Los Angeles: Veteran actor Rance Howard, who was also the father of director Ron Howard, passed away. He was 89.
The news of his death was shared by Ron on Twitter today.
“Clint and I have been blessed to be Rance Howard’s sons.
Today he passed at 89,” he tweeted.
“He stood especially tall for his ability to balance ambition with great personal integrity. A Depression-era farm boy, his passion for acting changed the course of our family history. We love and miss you dad,” he added.
Howard, whose career spanned three decades, acted in over 100 films. He also appeared in several of his son’s films, including “Apollo 13”, “Parenthood”, “Splash”, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, “Frost/Nixon” and “A Beautiful Mind”.
He also starred in Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska” in 2013.
Howard was married to actor Jean Speegle Howard, who died in 2000. Besides Ron, he was also the father to actor Clint Howard. Actors Bryce Dallas Howard and Paige Howard are his granddaughters.
On television, he had appeared on many series, including “Seinfeld”, “Murder, She Wrote”, “NCIS: Los Angeles” and “Grey’s Anatomy”.
