Another plea in HC seeks urgent steps to contain COVID-19

After the Delhi government and World Health Organization declared coronavirus as pandemic, another petition was filed before the Delhi High Court on Friday praying urgent steps to contain COVID-19.

An urgent mentioning was made before a division bench presided by Chief Justice D.N. Patel and Justice C. Harishankar which has agreed to hear the matter on Monday.

Earlier on Thursday while disposing of another petition regarding coronavirus, directed the Centre to contact Indian students in Iran and give them assurance in the wake of coronavirus.

Justice Navin Chawla also directed the government to submit a status report mentioning if any policy has been formulated and steps taken to evacuate Indians from Iran. The court also observed that issuing advisory will not work and people who stayed abroad need proper assurance.

The petition filed by parents of Indian students who are studying in Iran through social justice lawyer Fozia Rahman stated that though the Indian students in Iran have not been affected, there is still a life threat due to the spread of coronavirus and hence, they should return to their home country.

The petitioner had sought to ensure the safety of Indian students studying in Iran.

The petitioner has sought adequate travel arrangements for these students by suitable mode of transport. It also sought appropriate directions to provide humanitarian assistance to the Indian students in Iran.
