Telangana : Telangana Postal Circle - Activities taken up during the lock down period
1. Mail Motor Services exemplary work
a. MobilePostOfficeswerestartedensuringcomputers,connectivity,cashand
staff in Mail Motor Vehicle for providing Basic Postal (booking of speed post/parcels/registered articles, sale of stamps, etc.) and Savings Bank Services (deposits, withdrawals, opening of new accounts etc.)
b. Twenty (20) M.M.S. vehicles are being utilized extensively by Telangana State Medical Infrastructure Development Corporation for transporting essential drugs, medical equipment like oxygen cylinders, masks, gloves, etc., across Telangana State. More than 200 tons of material has been delivered from the State and District Medical Depots to District Hospitals, Area Hospitals and Primary Health Centers.
c. MMSvehicleswereusedextensivelyfortransportationof29,282MailBags Inter-State & Intra-State, due to lock down of Road, Train & Airline transportation.
d. Mail vans provided social services transporting essential goods, dry rations, cooked food to migrant labour camps/ slums/ settlements.
2. Mail Delivery - In view of lock down and restrictions on Postmen movements by Residents Welfare Associations and gated communities, accountable articles (Speed Post, Parcels, Registered letters) delivery was made from the Post offices itself by contacting the addressees wherever phone numbers are available in the addresses.
a. Examination Parcels safely transported and delivered:- Due to sudden lock down and suspension of S.S.C. and Intermediate Examinations mid-way, road/rail transport, transmission and delivery of examination parcels was badly affected. Special arrangements were made to collect, transport, sort and deliver 8000 SSC & Intermediate Examination parcels from the National Speed Post Hub, Hyderabad to evaluation centers in close coordination with Department of School Education, Telangana State.
b. In all 29,500 accountable articles were delivered during the lock -out period, including Speed Post, Registered and Parcel articles.
c. Overall priority was given to deliver medical equipment, personal protective equipment like masks, gloves, sanitizers etc. Whenever customers approached essential medicines/drugs booked as Speed Post articles were delivered directly from the National Speed Post Hub, Hyderabad.
3. Savings Bank services are provided in over 5500 Post Offices across the State, resulting in 74,709 deposits amounting to Rs.231.93 crs. and 35,364 withdrawals (including ATM) for an amount of Rs.91.26 crs.
4. Social Security Pensions are being disbursed to over 22,00,000 beneficiaries on behalf of Government of Telengana in over 5500 P.Os. In the first 6 days starting from 4th April 2020, in all 11,05,523 Pensions were disbursed involving an amount of Rs.255 cr. till 3pm on 9.4.2020.
5. Postal Women Welfare Organization has actively participated in providing relief to the needy poor families in 17 migrant labour settlement colonies and slum areas. They distributed sanitizers, dry rations including 350 kg rice, 200 kg of Atta, 15 kg of pulses, fruits, bread, clothes etc.
6. Safety of the Postal Staff - Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) were supplied to staff across the State involving 82,500 face masks, 20,000 hand sanitizers, 5000 Gloves, 15,000 Soaps. Special efforts were made to sanitize Post Offices.
