COVID-19: Gujarat cases climb to 650; death toll 28

Gandhinagar, With Ahmedabad nearing the 400-mark for coronavirus positive cases, Gujarat has now registered a total of 650 cases and 28 deaths. The number of cases found on Tuesday were 78 and 2 deaths.

On Tuesday morning a total of 45 positive cases were found and in the evening another 33 positive cases and two deaths were registered. Out of the total 33 cases found on Tuesday evening, Ahmedabad has 22, Vadodara 6, Bhavnagar and Chotta Udepur two each, Anand one.

Ahmedabad continued to lead as far more positive cases found in the state, which now has total of 650 positive cases. Nearing the 400 mark, Ahmedabad has the maximum positive cases 373, followed by Vadodara 113, Surat 42, Bhavnagar 26, Rajkot 18, Gandhinagar 16, Patan 14, Bharuch 11, Anand 10, Chotta Udepur 5, Kutch and k Mehsana 4 each, Porbandar 3, Panchmahals, Banaskantha, Dahod and Gir-Somnath 2 each and Jamnagar, Morbi and Sabarkantha 1 each.

Two more positive patients succumbed to the virus on Tuesday, as a male (50) with comorbid condition like diabetes, admitted in the Sir T hospital, Bhavnagar and another male (58) admitted in the Sterling hospital Vadodara died.

While 4 positive patients after treatment were discharged. One male (65) and a female (29) were discharged from the Sir T hospital Bhavnagar, while a female (28) was discharged from SVP hospital Ahmedabad. Another male (28) was discharged from hospital in Surat. Total 59 positive patients after treatment have been discharged so far.

"Out of the total 563 active cases, the condition of 555 is stable while 8 are on ventilator, their condition being critical," said Jayanti Ravi, the principal secretary, Health and family welfare Department, Gujarat.

In the last 24 hours, the health authorities have taken 1,733 samples for the testing, where 78 have been found positive and 1,655 negative. The total number of test carried out by the health department till now is 15,984 out of which 650 are positive with 15,334 negative.

The total number of quarantined in the state is 13,751, where 12,208 are home quarantined, 1,374 in government facilities and 169 in private facilities.

Looking at a situation, where the lockdown provisions were being violated freely and with the intentions to stop the further outbreak, the Gujarat government on Tuesday decided to impose a week-long curfew in the walled city of Ahmedabad and the area of Danilimda, starting from Wednesday morning.

The maximum number of positive cases in Ahmedabad have been found from the clusters in the walled city areas and Danilimda.
