Gandhinagar, Gujarat on Friday registered a total of 170 coronavirus positive cases, the highest in a single day. Most cases continued to be detected in Ahmedabad and Surat following intensified testing. Gujarat now has reported 1,099 corona positive cases and 41 deaths.
On Friday morning, a total of 92 positive cases and two deaths were reported in Gujarat and in the evening another 78 positive cases were registered with three deaths. Out of the total 78 cases found on Friday evening, Ahmedabad has 32, Surat 38, Vadodara 5 and Banaskantha 3.
On Friday, Gujarat saw the highest number of positive cases in a single day, 170.
With total 77 positive cases found on Friday, Ahmedabad continued to lead with the maximum positive cases with 622, followed by Vadodara 142, Surat 140, Rajkot 28, Bhavnagar and Anand with 26 each, Bharuch 21, Gandhinagar 17, Patan 15, Narmada 11, Banaskantha 9,A Panchmahals 8, Chotta Udepur 6, Kutch, Botad and Mehsana with 4 each, Porbandar, Kheda and Dahod with 3 each, Gir-Somnath 2 and Jamnagar, Morbi, Sabarkantha, Mahisagar and Aravalli with one each.
"Out of the total 972 active cases, the condition of 963 is stable while 9 still are on ventilator, their condition being critical," said Jayanti Ravi, the principal secretary, Health and family welfare Department, Gujarat.
As many as 12 positive patients were discharged on Friday. Total 86 positive patients after treatment have been discharged so far.
"In the last 24 hours, the health authorities have taken 2,535 samples for the testing, where 170 have been found positive, 2,365 negative. The total number of test carried out by the health department till now is 23,438 out of which 1,099 are positive, 22,339 negative," added Ravi.
The total number of quarantined in the state is 15,914, whereas 13,689 are home-quarantined, 2,054 in government facilities and 171 in private facilities.
Meanwhile, the first batch of Rapid Antibody Testing (RAT) kits requested by the Gujarat Government arrived from the Central government.
"We have received 24 thousand RAT kits from Delhi which was sent through air. We will be distributing them across the state and the testing will be carried out from Saturday. The testing will be carried out only in the containment zones as per the Central government protocols," added Ravi.
Continuing the strategy to impose curfews in urban areas where a spike in numbers of positive cases being witnessed after intensified testing, the Gujarat government imposed a curfew in Jungleshwar and Rajlaxmi areas of Rajkot.
Earlier two cities, Ahmedabad and Surat, from Wednesday and Friday morning respectively were similarly put under curfew. This was because the maximum number of positive cases in Ahmedabad and Surat were found from the clusters in these areas.
So far, out of the total 41 deaths, 21 people have died from the virus infection in Ahmedabad alone, followed by 6 in Vadodara, 5 in Surat and 3 in Bhavnagar.
