Panaji, Goa recorded its highest daily spike in coronavirus cases on Saturday as 71 more persons tested positive. The state's active cases increased to 202 as a result.
Of the 71 new cases, 62 were found in Mangor hill area in South Goa's Vasco town, which has already been designated a containment zone.
Commenting on a sudden increase in corona cases since the beginning of June, especially on account of the outbreak in Mangor hill, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said: "... I would like to make a humble appeal to the people to remain calm as the state government is taking all necessary measures to keep Goa safe."
The Minister said that the corona outbreak in Mangor hill -- where nearly 150 persons have tested positive so far -- was due to local transmission.
"We are geared up to tackle the local transmission in Mangor hill and also doing contact tracing. I would like to reiterate that corona cases in the state are rising due to local transmission in Mangor hill and there is no community transmission in Goa," Rane said.
