Gandhinagar, Gujarat recorded 540 new coronavirus cases on Friday, the highest detected on a single day, taking the state's total positive cases to 26,198 and Ahmedabad's 18,258.
Coronavirus claimed 27 more lives in the state, taking its death toll to 1,619. As many as 340 patients were cured and discharged from hospitals on Friday.
The state has 6,412 active cases, of which 6,345 patients are stable, whereas 67 critical patients are still on ventilators.
On Friday, health authorities carried out 5,557 RT-PCR tests, of which 540 tested postiive.
Of these new cases, 312 were detected in Ahmedabad (57.77%, followed by Surat 93, Vadodara 45, Mahesana 12, Gandhinagar, Bharuch and Jamnagar 9 each, Patan 8, Aravalli 7, Rajkot 5, Kutch, Junagadh and Narmada 4 each, Valsad 3, Bhavnagar, Sabarkantha, Kheda, Dahod and Surendranagar 2 each and Banaskantha, Mahisagar, Anand, Panchmahals, Chotta Udepur and Navsari one each.
Of the 27 fatalities, Ahmedabad had the highest 21, with four from Surat and one patient each in Mahesana and Surendranagar.
Despite a decrease in its corona cases, Ahmedabad's death toll rate remained around 81 per cent. As many as 581 of the total 1,619 patients have succumbed to the virus during just 19 days of June.
Of the total deaths, 1,299 succumbed in Ahmedabad alone, followed by 116 in Surat, 49 in Vadodara, 23 in Gandhinagar, 15 in Panchmahals, 14 in Aravalli, 13 each in Bhavnagar and Anand, 11 in Patan, 10 in Mahesana and 8 in Banaskantha.
Gujarat has one of the highest mortality rate for corona patients in the country at 6.20%.
With 340 more patients discharged, the total climbed to 18,169 in the state.
Of Gujarat's 26,198 cases, Ahmedabad continues to lead with 18,258, followed by Surat 2,953, Vadodara 1,775, Gandhinagar 540, Mahesana 205, Bhavnagar 180, Rajkot 177, Aravalli 164, Banaskantha 160, Sabarkantha Panchmahals with 148 each, Anand 141, Patan 137, Bharuch 124, Mahisagar 122, Kheda 115, Kutch 108, Jamnagar 107, Surendranagar 86, Botad 70, Valsad 62, Junagadh 57, Gir-Somnath 53, and 50 patients from other states.
Of the total 3,14,301 RT-PCR tests in the state, 2,88,103 returned negative results.
As many as 2,17,590 people are quarantined in the state, of which 2,23,661 are lodged in their homes and 2,939 in government facilities.
