Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh's Covid-19 tally witnessed yet another massive jump in cases on Sunday, with 813 new cases reported from various parts of the state. The Sunday's tally is the highest single-day count of corona cases reported so far. The update, which includes returnees from other states and overseas, takes the overall tally to 13,098 in Andhra Pradesh.
The previous single-day high of 796 was reported a day earlier, on Saturday. The 24 hours ending 9 a.m., Sunday also saw as many as 25,778 samples tested for the virus. Till date, the state has conducted tests on 8,41,860 samples tests.
On Sunday, the number of recoveries was also high with 401 persons cured and discharged from hospitals in the state. The tally of cured persons is 5,908 while 7,021 persons are currently being treated at different hospitals in Andhra Pradesh.
The death toll also climbed up significantly on Sunday, with 12 persons reported dead. The latest updates take the state death toll to 169. Of the 12 deaths reported on Sunday, six occurred in Kurnool, five were reported from the Krishna districts, and one death was reported from the West Godavari district.
On Sunday, 12 of the 13 districts reported fresh cases during the preceding 24 hours. Kadapa reported the highest tally of 111 cases followed by Kurnool with 103, and Guntur with 90 cases. Some of the other districts with high incidence include Chittoor with 82 cases, and Krishna with 79 cases. Srikakulam district was the lone district where not even a single new case was detected during the preceding 24 hours.
The Sunday did not witness much change in the number of covid cases detected among people returning from other states. Compared to 51 cases on Saturday, 50 new cases were detected in this category on Sunday. The bulk of positive cases were detected among the Telangana returnees with 18 positive cases. Similarly, 14 of the covid positive samples belonged to the returnees from Tamil Nadu, and 10 cases were from Maharashtra. Apart from this, three cases from Delhi, two from Madhya Pradesh, and one each from Odisha and Chattisgarh were also reported in the past 24 hours.
So far a total of 1,865 persons has tested positive for covid among the persons who returned from other states. Of this, the active cases tally is 734, while 1,131 persons have been cured till date. Twelve new cases were being reported from overseas returnees. While two covid cases each were returnees from Kuwait and Qatar respectively, one each from South Africa, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Malaysia were also detected. The cumulative tally of covid patients in foreign returnees category is 385, while 92 persons have been discharged after getting cured.
