Bengaluru, Karnataka registered 947 Covid-19 cases, with 503 of them in Bengaluru, raising the state's tally to 15,242 even as 20 people succumbed to the virus, an official said here on Tuesday.
"New cases reported from Monday 5 p.m. to Tuesday 5 p.m, 947," said a health official.
With 503 more cases, the tech city's total positive cases rose to 4,555. Of this, 3,916 are active. Bengaluru has emerged as a hotspot as it's logging cases in the hundreds everyday.
On Monday, the city recorded 738 cases, on Sunday 783 and on Saturday 596. Last three days accounted for 2,117, lion's share of the tally.
In the past 24 hours, 20 people succumbed to the virus in the state -- six in Ballari, four in Benglauru Urban, two each in Haveri, Dharwad and Vijayapura and one each in Kolar, Davangere, Belagavi and Mysuru.
Among the new cases, Bengaluru Urban accounted for 503, followed by Ballari (61), Haveri (49), Daskhina Kannada (44), Uttara Kannada (40), Vijayapura (39) and Shivamogga (22), Bengaluru Rural (21), Bidar and Dharwad (17 each), Hassan (16), Kalaburagi and Raichur (15 each), Chikkaballapura (13), Davangere and Ramanagara (12 each), Chikkamagaluru (10), Udupi and Mysuru (9), Bagalkote and Kodagu (4 each), Kolar and Chitradurga (3 each), Yadgir, Mandya, Belagavi and Gadag (2 each) and Tumkur (1).
Of the 947 new cases, 790 (83 per cent) are contacts of earlier cases while domestic returnees caused only 51 (5 per cent) cases.
On Tuesday, 235 people got discharged, elevating the number of discharges to 7,918. Critical cases in ICU rose to 271.
Though the total number of cases are 15,242, only 7,074 are active, while Covid deaths rose to 246.
