Chennai,  As many as 4,538 more persons tested positive for coronavirus in Tamil Nadu over the past 24 hours, taking the active cases to 47,782, the Health Department said on Friday.

In a statement issued here, the department said the total corona tally in the southern state is 160,907.

With 79 more fatalities due to COVID-19, the state's death toll had increased to 2,315. In all, 3,319 patients were cured and discharged from hospitals, increasing the number of cured patients to 110,807.

Taking into account the cured and dead patients, the active cases in Tamil Nadu totalled 47,782.

The number of infected children in the state in the age group 0-12 went up to 7,991.

The state capital Chennai continued to head the infection table with 1,243 more cases, with a total tally of 83,377. The city's active cases added up to 14,923 while the total patients discharged in Chennai stood at 1,329.
