Chennai, Tamil Nadu logged a record 5,859 fresh coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours while it discharged a total of 4,910 Covid-19 patients, said the State Health Department.
The total number Covid-19 deaths in the state went up to 3,144 after adding 444 deaths notified after the report of the Death Reconciliation Committee in Greater Chennai Corporation.
The death reconciliation committee was set up following discrepancies noticed in the toll, after it was estimated that deaths at individual homes due to the virus were perhaps going under reported.
In a statement issued here the department said 5,859 persons tested positive for coronavirus in the state, taking the total tally of infected persons till date in Tamil Nadu to 1,86,492.
A total of 4,910 persons were discharged from various hospitals taking the total number of Covid-19 cured patients to 1,31,583.
The total number of patients who died over the past 24 hours was 75. The number of active Covid-19 cases in the state after taking into account the cured and dead stands at 51,765.
The number of infected children in the state in the age group 0-12 went up to 9,357.
The state capital Chennai continued to head the Covid-19 infection table with 1,171 persons testing positive for the virus and its total tally stands at 89,561. The active cases in the city are at 13,941 while the total number of patients discharged in Chennai stood at 1,731.
