Even as the latest song from a yet to be released Malayalam movie turned its featured actors into overnight stars and youtube sensations, a few Muslim youths in Hyderabad have approached police alleging that the song has hurt their religious sentiments.
A group of Muslim youth on Wednesday approached police and lodged a complaint against actress Priya Prakash Varrier and makers of a song for its objectionable lyrics, police said. The police registered a case under section 295 A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings or any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of IPC against Malayalam movie director Omar Lulu for hurting the sentiments of Muslims in the song Manikya Malaraya Poovi in his upcoming movie 'Oru Adaar Love' based on a complaint from one 20-year old Mukheet and five others.
According to the complaint, the song's lyrics placed the love story of Prophet Muhammad and Khadeeja Bibi (who later married him) in bad taste, as set against the backdrop of a school-based love story. This is objectionable and insults the sentiments of Muslims, the complaint said.
"You are not supposed to use the name of Prophet PBUH or his wife and use their story for comparison of a boy and girl's romance. This was completely unnecessary," Mir Zaheeruddin Ali Khan, one of the complainants revealed.
The 3.16-minute long song talks about Khadeeja Bibi who lived like a queen in the city of Makkah. She asks Khatam an-Nabiyyin (Prophet Muhammad) to lead a trade expedition as she desired for him at his first sight. To marry him was her desire.
Police said action would be taken after verifying the details.
