Rajinikanth's signature roaring laughter sent the crowd into a frenzy as he today unleashed his style power at a gathering here while laying bare contours of his political future.
In his very first public engagement after announcing a few months ago that he would launch a party, the top star charmed the people with his simple, direct and effective communication skills striking an instant chord with the audience.
For the crowd, the speech interspersed with punchlines and the 10-second trademark laughter was a virtual reminiscence of his unique style in films.
In essence, the top actor not only gave a point by point rebuttal to the criticisms targeted against him by the ruling AIADMK and those in the social media, but he also did it with grace and style.
Clad in his white shirt and dhoti, Rajinikanth, appearing calm and serene in his about 35-minute address in Tamil, exhibited a mix of aggression and softness with modulation.
His voice shifted from being moderate, high to low pitch in sync with the subject.
Sporting a grey moustache, beard and a black spectacle, the actor was at his best when he gave his trademark laughter as answer while anticipating a political repartee to his adulation of MGR.
While saying "from now on you will see what is spiritual politics," he was at his assertive best and it was an instant click.
"Ayya, Namma pakkam Andavaney Irukkan," (Sir, God himself is on our side) his well-known punchline was an instant hit.
Similarly, with aplomb he said he can administer as "there is a vacuum for a good leader and leadership."
While he chose a relatively moderate voice pitch to recall how he too had learnt some politics by his association with leaders DMK chief M Karunanidhi, he modulated in a low-voice to say "I too have a duty to do good to the people and that is why I said I will come to politics," evoking thunderous applause.
