Governor Banwarilal Purohit called a press confereence to clear questions after his name was dragged into the Tamil Nadu sex for degrees case, but he only ended up in further controversy.

The case blew up on 15 April when an audio tape surfaced in which sexual favours that were sought by an assistant professor of Devanga Arts college in Virudhunagar, affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University from the students, in exchange for high marks and a better life. She also claimed to know the Governor.

Governor Banwarilal Purohit ordered a probe by a retired IAS officer, R Santhanam. The report is to be submitted before 30 April. But in the Press conference given by him to address the issue, he patted a female journalist on the cheek, which was condemned by all journalists and the opposition. The Governor apologized but the journalist wasn't fully satisfied with it.
