Some may call it belief, while others may rubbish it as superstition, but this is the reality of a village barely 70 Kms away from the state capital Bhopal. Sanka Jaagir Village in Rajgarh area of Madhya Pradesh doesn't allow delivery of newborns inside the village territory:

The village has a population of around 1200 and majority of the families living here belong to Gurjar community. Village elders recall that it has been more than 50 years since they saw any women delivered a child inside the village territory. It's their belief that if it happens, than either the newborn will die or he will become handicapped.
The villagers believe that many years ago, the village had a temple dedicated to chief deity Shyam Ji who was the Rajput chieftain of the area. To maintain the hallowed sanctity of the temple, the village elders had decided to send women outside village territory to give birth to children.
In order to appease their deity, locals reportedly don't even consume liquor. Those who do don't enter the village till they are sober.
