In a big embarrassment for Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government, a WhatsApp message has exposed the state police's 'bribe rate card'. The Noida senior superintendent of police has ordered a probe into the incident. 18 officers of the Special Operation Group of the Noida Branch were transferred to line which is akin to a demotion.
A high-level enquiry has been ordered by Noida SSP after a Whatsapp message carrying details of 'bribe rates' became public. Sources say some cops fought with each other over 'distribution' of the bribe amount. The fight became ugly and later a constable forwarded the 'rate card' to DGP. DGP then asked Noida SSP to order a probe.
There development is particularly problematic in light of recent allegations of ‘fake encounters’ on UP police. The northern state under the Chief Ministership of Yogi Adityanath has seen the killings of 50 dreaded criminals. According to the official data, there have been 1,478 encounters in the state till March 25, 2018 since last year.
