BS Yeddyurappa, who was sworn in as the Chief Minister of state, has resigned from the post ahead of the crucial Karnataka floor test to prove the majority. In an unusually emotional speech, Yeddyurappa said that he failed to muster the numbers. Before announcing his resignation, the BJP leader said, “I will lose nothing if I lose power, my life is for the people.” Yeddyurappa will submit his resignation letter to Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala. The BJP leaders, present in the Vidhana Soudha, walked out as soon as he resigned.

In an emotional speech ahead of the floor test, BS Yeddyurappa said, “Since 2016, I’ve been the BJP chief in K’taka. Both PM Modi & BJP chief Amit Shah have said I will be CM. I have traveled throughout the state for the last two years and have seen pain on the faces of people. I can’t forget the love & affection I received from people.”

Thanking people of Karnataka for their support, Yeddyurappa said, “I want to give my thanks to the 6.5 crore people of Karnataka. People have blessed us with 104 seats. The state has given me a lot of love and affection and support for this fight and gave us 104 seats in Vidhana Soudha.”

Attacking the Congress and JD(S) for their “unholy” alliance, Yeddyurappa said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had emerged as the single largest party in the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018. “BJP is the single largest party and that’s why the Governor gave us the opportunity to form the government. The mandate wasn’t for Congress or JD(S) I will serve people till my last breath.”

Reacting to the Yeddyurappa’s resignation ahead of the floor test, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said that it is the victory of the Constitution. “We would like to congratulate the MLAs of Congress, JD(S), independent as well as BSP who resisted all sorts of temptations & arm twisting by Central govt. They stood by the party principles & decision taken by the party leadership,” he said.

Former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah congratulated the party and said that it is a historic day in Indian politics. “Governor’s decision was a blot on the Indian democracy.”

“We are waiting for an invitation from the Governor’s House,” said Kumaraswamy on being asked when he would take the CM oath.
