A man named Ramesh Singh from Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand was arrested on Tuesday, for allegedly leaking classified information in exchange of money to Pakistan’s Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI). He worked as a cook at the house of an Indian diplomat in Pakistan for about two years.

Ramesh, 35-years-old was arrested from his house in Pithoragarh’s Garali village in a joint operation by UP’s Anti-Terror Squad (ATS), military intelligence and Uttarakhand police. Singh eavesdropped the house of an Indian defence attaché with the help of ISI to get sensitive information, Times of India reported.

Singh on Wednesday was taken to Lucknow on transit demand after being produced in Pithoragarh court. Uttarakhand sought the help of Uttar Pradesh ATS in the case a few months ago, following which directorate of military intelligence was also roped in to help with the investigation.

Anand Kumar, additional director general (law and order) told TOI that  Ramesh had bugged the residence of an Indian defence attaché in connivance with Pakistan’s ISI, hence compromising the position of the diplomat. In 2017, Singh returned to India and settled his debts. However, it is yet not clear how much money he had received from the ISI.
