Mumbai Airport to Remain Closed For Three Hours Today

Mumbai Airport to Remain Closed For Three Hours Today

The main runway of Mumbai Airport will remain closed for three hours on Saturday due to work related to ILS (Instrument Landing System). In the wake of maintenance functions, the flight schedule, to and fro Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) is likely to be affected. ILS upgradation work at Mumbai Airport on Friday saw 412 flight delays, reports claim.

No flight operation will be carried out at Mumbai Airport between 2 PM – 5 PM today. “Main runway of Mumbai Airport to remain closed between 2 pm to 5 pm for work related to ILS (Instrument Landing System), flight schedule to be affected,” ANI tweeted on Saturday.

The closure of the main runway is expected to put passengers at inconvenience in the view of suspension of various services at the airport. As some of the flights are cancelled and rescheduled, the passengers travelling today will have to check with the airlines to avoid inconvenience.

The Mumbai airport, which is the second busiest in the country, is the primary base of Jet Airways and a bulk of its operations, both domestic and international, are carried out from CSIA. It has two crossing runways — 09/27 (the main) and 14/32 (the secondary runway). While the primary runway can handle up to 48 arrivals and departures per hour, the secondary runway has a capacity of 35 movements per hour.

On an average, there are 970 flight arrivals and departures at the Mumbai airport every day.
