Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday said that his father, Bal Thackeray, tolerated the Bharatiya Janata Party’s misdeeds but he will not. Speaking at a rally in Dahanu ahead of the Palghar Lok Sabha seat bypoll 2018 for Shiv Sena candidate Shriniwas Wanaga, Thackeray said that his party tolerated the BJP for 25 years for the sake of Hindutva.
“Unfortunately, there is regret about some things, because the ideals of Hindutva are not seen in the younger generation of the BJP,” Thackeray said. “Balasaheb tolerated it (BJP’s misdeeds). We have had enough of it, and I will not tolerate this anymore,” he said. “They have become arrogant after coming to power. But we are contesting the Palghar polls to show them the truth,” he said.
The Shiv Sena chief launched a scathing attack on Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath saying that he is “not a yogi but a bhogi“. “Had he been a Yogi, he would have given up everything but he went and sat on the Chief Minister’s chair. Then he calls himself a Yogi. He cannot be a Yogi,” he said.
The Sena chief slammed Yogi Adityanath for not removing his footwear while garlanding a portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji during a public rally in Virar earlier this week. “It is basic respect to remove one’s footwear before bowing in front of Shivaji Maharaj, who is revered as God. Yogi did not do so. What else can be expected of him? It is an insult to Shivaji Maharaj,” he said. “I felt like smashing his face with the same footwear,” he added.
Referring to Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’s comment that Shiv Sena is no longer the party which Bal Thackeray had founded years ago, Uddhav said, “BJP of today is not the original BJP of (Atal Bihari) Vajpayee. It has become a BJP of (Narendra) Modi.”
