UP Deputy CM Maurya Undergoes Cavernoma Surgery at AIIMS

Uttar Pradesh deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya is undergoing cavernoma surgery at AIIMS, says ANI. The agency has reported that Maurya was brought to Delhi from Lucknow admitted to the hospital on Friday when he suffered a seizure, said media, and his condition continued to deteriorate. He was admitted in the cardio-neuro centre of the hospital. Under the investigation of Professor Shashank Shekhar Kale, HoD, Neuro Surgery, Maurya is undergoing cavernoma surgery. Cavernoma is a cluster of abnormal blood vessels, usually found in the brain and spinal cord.

Maurya rose from the ranks to be a party MP from Phulpur. The party heavily banked upon him to campaign in the 2017 Assembly elections. Phulpur was traditionally represented by the first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru and went on to be BSP’s stronghold. However, with Maurya, the BJP achieved its maiden victory from Phulpur. While the BJP went on to repeat its success in Assembly elections of 2017 and formed the government in the state, it lost the Phulpur seat in the by-elections to Samajwadi Party.

The 49-year-old politician holds the portfolios of PWD, food processing, entertainment tax and public enterprises department. He had recently joined the voices growing loud in claiming that Muhammad Ali Jinnah was not a national hero and hence, his portrait needn’t find a place in Aligarh Muslim University anymore.
