Countering the comments made by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao that waiving of ₹ 2 lakh farm loans was not possible, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the party was committed to its promise.
The TPCC president was here to participate in the final day of three-day agitation by former whip and Congress leader T. Jayaprakash Reddy at Sangareddy demanding establishment of medical college.
Addressing a gathering of party activists adjacent to Collectorate, Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that it was possible to fulfil the promise. “In the past we had waived off farm loans in single stroke and this time also we are ready to do that. The current budget of the Telangana State is ₹ 1.74 lakh crore and in 2019 it will in the size of ₹1.90 lakh crore and hence it is possible,” he said.
Referring to free power to farm sector, he said that the opposition had also criticised the idea but it was implemented without fail. He also found fault with Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao for failing to fulfil promises like double bedroom houses and three acres land for dalits.
Officers warned
Referring to cases being filed against Congress leaders, the TPCC president warned the police and other officials that they would not remain silent once they came to power and officials would have to pay for their mistakes.
“We will continue our agitation for the next eight to 10 months for the medical college. If the TRS government fails we will establish it after coming to power,” he added.
While calling people to observe a bandh for medical college on Thursday, Mr. Jayaprakash Reddy said that they will not trust any announcements. but would accept it only if a GO was issued followed by laying of foundation on the hospital premises. He has also warned to cordon off Pragati Bhavan if the demand was not met.
