Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan, who was called up for interrogation at the Thane Police Station on Saturday a couple of days after the arrest of bookie Sonu Jalan in the IPL betting scandal, has admitted to have placed bets on Indian Premier League matches. A 5-member team was given the responsibility of questioning both Arbaaz and the bookie Sonu Jalan on the matter. On being questioned, Abraaz also admitted that Jalan was threatening him as he owed the bookie Rs. 2.8 crores.
Arbaaz also admitted that betting has been his hobby and he is used to placing bets on cricket matches. After losing money to the Jalan, he was being blackmailed as the bookie said that he will expose his betting habit if the money he owed him wasn't settled. With that being said, a set of at least 10 questions was prepared for interrogation as the police looks to explore all angles.
While the actor admitted to have been placing bets for 6 years, some of the other major angles of probe are whether Arbaaz knew about the bookie's link with Dawood Ibrahim, if there are others in the fraternity who place such bets and also if his family was aware of the betting habit of his.
The bookie Jalan was earlier arrested in connection with the case and was booked under sections 420,465,468,471rw 34 of the IPC, section 4(A),5 of the Gambling Act and also IT Act 66A at the Dombilivi police station. His line holding machine - which is used to handle various calls at the same time - has also been seized by the Anti Extortion Cell.
