Hornell went on to indicate that at least 15 per cent of their products or at least 1,000 of them will be introduced with a price tag of Rs 200 or lower. This will surely lead to a major disruption in the furnishing and furniture market in India, as existing players would be forced to bring down prices.
He explained that the articles that will be sold at Rs 200 or less will lead to profitability and an increase in customer base over a period of time. While it has big plans for India, it does not seem to be in a hurry, indicated the report, adding that it will only look at opening its second store in Mumbai in 2019. In addition, the company also plans to launch an online store after it successfully launched its Mumbai physical store.
Besides, the company has several other plans in mind to etch its position in the Indian furniture market. One such initiative is a home furnishing consultancy to assist customers who sign up for the Ikea family members’ programme.
