Slamming the Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) for the deaths of two BJP workers – both of whom were found hanging within the past few days – the BJP has accused the TMC of “propagating terrorism” and called it the “Taliban Congress Party”. BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain has called for West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee's resignation. “This isn't Trinamool Congress Party but Taliban Congress Party. TMC is propagating terrorism. If TMC wants to fight, they must do so ideologically,” Hussain told news agency ANI on Saturday. “The manner in which our worker was hanged, Mamata Banerjee does not have the right to stay in power anymore.”
Hussain said the BJP would not sit quietly “especially after the manner in which BJP people are being targeted”. Accusing the West Bengal police of acting like the “cadre of TMC”, the BJP leader said there was no difference between the police and the TMC.
Three days after Trilochan Mahato, a young BJP worker, was found hanging from a tree in the state’s Purulia district, a 30-year-old man was found hanging from an electric tower in Purulia’s Dabha village. The BJP says the victim, Dulal Kumar, was also a party worker, and his family has ruled out the possibility of suicide.
Meanwhile, the chief minister has ordered a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigation into both the deaths.
Dulal was missing since Friday night. When he didn’t come back home, his worried family started searching for him in the area. Early on Saturday morning his body was found hanging, a death eerily similar to Mahato’s.
