Rajinikanth starrer Kaala released a couple of days back and is doing record-breaking business in the southern region of India. But before that, he had also shot for the sequel to Robot titled 2.0. Featuring Akshay Kumar in a negative role, 2.0 was earlier slated for a Diwali 2017 release and was further pushed to Republic Day 2018. But the magnum opus was further pushed to an April 2018 release. However, it didn't release even then.
In the meanwhile, Rajinikanth finished the shoot of Kaala and the gangster drama released on June 07, Akshay on the other hand too saw the release of Pad Man in February earlier this year.
And is now gearing up for the release of Gold, which is slated for an Independence Day release. But there is no word on the release of 2.0. A couple of days back Rajinikanth has now moved onto another film, a Karthik Subbaraj directorial and is in Darjeeling for a month-long shoot.
Now according to a latest report in Bollywood Hungama, 2.0 won't make it to the theatres until next year i.e 2019. Yes, the VFX work on the film is still underway and it won't be completed until 2019.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, "With the amount of VFX work on 2.0 that is still pending there is no way the makers will be able to release the film this year. In fact, the producers are currently working out a perfect release date for the film that will now hit screens in 2019 and an announcement of the same will be done in the last quarter of the year."
2.0 was already touted to be the most expensive Indian film till date, now with endless delays, the cost of the film shot up like crazy.
