CM Manohar Parrikar back in India after medical treatment in the US; will fly to Goa shortly

In a big relief to the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Goa, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar returned to India on Thursday, after spending almost over 100 days in the United States for his medical treatment, as reported by news agency ANI. Sources told Times Now that the Chief Minister has called for a cabinet meeting on Friday, about which the ministers have reportedly been informed verbally. Parrikar will be flying to Goa in a short while.

The CM had been in the US since March this year, undergoing treatment for a pancreatic ailment. A senior official at the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) told news agency PTI on Wednesday "Parrikar will fly from the US to Mumbai and from Mumbai to Goa on Thursday. He is arriving in Panaji tomorrow.”

As per a report in TheTimes of India, the chief minister had formed a cabinet advisory committee to guide and advise the state administration on several issues, including governance, in his absence. The committee was formed before he left Goa for treatment in the US. Parrikar had also been monitoring the developments in the state from the US, says the report.

The committee, which included Sudin Dhavalikar of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, Francis D'Souza of the BJP and Vijai Sardesai of the Goa Forward Party, has June 30 as the date of the expiration of its tenure.

During the last three months, opposition Congress party had alleged that the state administration’s work had faced a setback in the absence of CM Parrikar, who is in-charge of several portfolios including home, finance, personnel, and general administration.
