Lucknow passport official says asked Tanvi Seth to get name endorsed but she refused

Lucknow passport official says asked Tanvi Seth to get name endorsed but she refused

The accused officer Vikas Mishra claims that Tanvi Seth was carrying her nikahnama or the Islamic marriage contract too at the time of interview which displayed her name as Shadia. There is a specific column which requires the applicants to declare if they've ever changed their name, he asked the applicant to clarify that point. Mishra added that he acted completely as per rules and referred the matter to seniors.

"Asked Tanvi Seth to get the name 'Shadia Anas' endorsed as it was mentioned on her Nikahnama but she refused. We have to do thorough checks to ensure no person is changing their name to obtain a passport," Mishra said in a statement.

He said that the couple had come to Lucknow from Noida to get their passport done on a short leave and they got agitated when he raised an objection. It was reported that the erring official Vikas Mishra was transferred to another location as part of punitive measures by the authorities in the case.

On Wednesday, Tanvi Seth tweeted to Ministry of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj alleging mistreatment by Vikas Mishra at the Lucknow passport office. She said the accused official Mishra had asked her husband to convert to Hinduism if he wanted to get his passport renewed.

The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday intervened and ordered a probe into the “humiliating” incident. The MEA also ensured that Tanvi Seth and her husband Mohammad Anas Siddiqui receive their passports today itself. The Regional Passport Office (RPO) has spoken to the representative at the Passport Sewa Kendra located at Lucknow’s Ratan Square. The erring officer has been transferred.

Talking to news agency ANI today, Siddiqui said that the couple had all the legal documents required to apply for a passport.
