He called me 'fat', so I shot him: Gangster Sunil Rathi who killed gangster Munna Bajrangi in Baghpat Jail

Gangster Munna Bajrangi alias Prem Prakash was shot dead in Baghpat district jail in Uttar Pradesh by another dreaded UP gangster Sunil Rathi. In his statements to the police, Rathi said that Bajrangi had offensively called him fat before the murder.

Defying all reports of a planned conspiracy, infamous gangster Rathi gave this strange argument as the reason for the murder. In his first statement after the shooting, Rathi said that the talk about him being 'fat' had gotten offensive so he decided to shoot Bajrangi.

In the statement given to the first police after the assassination, Rathi said that the debate about Bajrangi and his talk had started so much that he got all gun bullets on him. He further said that the gun was snatched from Bajrangi after which Rathi pinned him to the ground and emptied the cartridge on him.

According to a report by The Times of India, Rathi had come out for a walk in the morning when he met Bajrangi. Bajrangi casually commented calling him 'fat'. Rathi said that when he came out for a walk in the morning, he met Munna Bajrangi, who saw it saying that he is "fat".

To this, Rathi replied by saying “Look at yourself first”. As the argument escalated, Bajrangi threatened to shoot Rathi with his Mauser gun. However, Rathi took it away before he could shoot and shot Bajrangi himself.

Despite the statements, the police are not ruling out the possibility of a planned murder since the statements of witnesses differ greatly than Rathi's. An officer who is now part of the investigation said that the witnesses saw Rathi strolling in the garden outside his 'Isolation cell' and started firing without reason.

As per the police, it is also being taken into consideration that all bullets were emptied, which makes it seem like Rathi didn't want to keep Bajrangi alive in any condition. Earlier, Bajrangi's wife had also voiced her fears about a conspiracy being carried out within the jail against her husband. The SP leader Azam Khan also raised question over law and order in Uttar Pradesh highlighting this issue.
