Gita copies distributed in colleges, Opposition cries 'Hindutva plot'

After the copies of religious book 'Gita' was distributed in colleges, the opposition has come out and called it a 'Hindutva' plot. The oppistion alleged that the move is a government ploy to push its saffronization agenda ahead of the 2019 elections. Dubbing the move as unconstitutional, members of the opposition asked why holy texts of other religions were not distributed.

Maharashtra eduation minister Vinod Tawde, however, said that the sample books were distributed by a trust and not the government. He said an NGO named Bhakti Vedanta approached his office and asked the ministry to buy volumes of Bhagwad Gita and distribute it.

The ministry declined and instead offered to help the trust with a list of colleges, so that trust can distribute the books on their own.

"I told them if they want to do it, a list of colleges will be provided to them and then they can go and distrbute the books. After we provided them the list, their books reached certain colleges and didn't reach the others.Following which they submitted the remaining books at my co-ordinator's office," Tawde issued a statement.

The ministry or the administration has got nothing to do with the distribution, it was done free of cost, he added. The ministry only provided them a list and asked them to distribute it on their own.

"If someone comes up with the idea of distributing Quran and Bible, we will do it,' added Tawde.

Bhagwat Gita is sacred to us hindus but our country runs on the constitution. Constitution given by Dr. B R Ambedkar is the only constitution this nation will follow. If you want to follow somethinng then follow the constitution. Will you follow the sacred books of each and every religion ? This decision is solely taken by trhe Cheif Minister and the Education Minister.
