Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has warned that if "Delhi" tries to "break PDP", then the öutcomes will be dangerous". "If Delhi, tries to dismiss the voting rights of people like 1987, if it tries to create divisions & interfere like that then I think just like a Salahuddin and a Yasin Malik were born in 1987...if it tries to break PDP like that then outcomes will be dangerous (sic)," news agency ANI quoted Mufti as saying.

Mufti's comments assume importance on the backdrop of reports that some of the PDP MLAs are breaking away from the party and exploring possibilities of political alliances with rival parties such as Congress or BJP.

On Wednesday former Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Nirmal Singh held a closed-door meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi fueling rumours that the BJP was working towards forming a 'saffron' government in the state. Local media reported that a number of PDP MLAs have been in touch with BJP ahead of general elections 2019. 

Amid speculations, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah cited that the state unit of BJP is breaking PDP MLAs in the state.  Taking to Twitter, the former J&K Chief Minister said, "Contrary to @rammadhavbjp assertions the state unit of the BJP confesses to being party to the efforts to break the @jkpdp. Power at any cost would seem to be the guiding philosophy."

BJP's National General Secretary Ram Madhav was, however, quick to deny the report. Responding to Abdullah's tweet, he said, "Not true. I will certainly check with d state unit n ensure that BJP keeps itself scrupulously out of whatever is happening in other parties in d Valley. We are for continuing with Governor’s rule in d interest of peace, governance n development in d state (sic)."
