After Rahul Gandhi’s reported remarks given to an Urdu daily that the Congress was for Muslims, an insider has confirmed that the party president did make the controversial remarks. In fact, Nadeem Javed has gone on to second Rahul’s remark, saying he was right in saying that ‘we are a party for the Muslims’.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra tweeted on Monday morning that Nadeem Javed, the president of Congress’ minority cell, even said in an interview to Inquilab Urdu newspaper that Rahul will soon also preside over a Muslim convention.’
“In an interview to,इंक़लाब, Congress’ Minority Cell President Nadeem Javed has reiterated that Rahul Gandhi was right in saying “हाँ,हम मुसलमानों की पार्टी है” ..Mr Javed further says Rahul Gandhi is meeting Muslim अकलियत and very soon He will be presiding over a Muslim Convention,” Patra said on Twitter.
Union minister and BJP leader Giriraj Singh also hit out at Rahul Gandhi over the controversy, alleging a conspiracy to divide the country. The minister was also referring to the AIMPLB proposal to set up Shariat courts in the country.
“There is a conspiracy to divide the nation. This started after Rahul Gandhi's meeting with Muslim intellectuals. He is conspiring to destroy the Constitution. He must apologise to the nation. One law one nation will be accepted, not one nation two laws,” Singh was quoted as saying by ANI.
The BJP had on Sunday questioned Rahul’s "silence" over his reported ‘Muslim party’ remarks while alleging the Congress has no place for Muslim women.
The BJP response came after the Congress had slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that he has a "sick" mentality after the latter accused the Rahul-led party of standing only for Muslim men.
“The shameful allegations made by the Congress leader against the Prime Minister only showed their desperation,” senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, adding the Congress had yet to support government's initiatives like on instant triple talaq.
“When Rahul Gandhi goes to Gujarat for elections, he becomes a janeudhari (one who wears the sacred thread) and flaunts his Brahmin lineage. He does the same in Karnataka. Now when the elections are over, he starts patronising the Muslims," Prasad said.
"The issue is why Rahul Gandhi is maintaining conspicuous silence. Why he is not speaking,” he added
