Juventus have twice reached the finals of the Champions League in the past four seasons but have failed to lift the title even once. When it comes to European football, the reigning Serie A champions have been one of the most consistent teams of late. After acquiring the services of Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid's all-time highest goal scorer, the Bianconeri are hoping to close the gap between the European title and bring glory back to Italy.
Ronaldo underwent his medical at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on Monday and will be soon unveiled as a Juventus player, completing his stunning 100 million Euros move to Serie A. He might bring in remarkable quality and add depth to the squad but success is not guaranteed for the club, believes Italy midfielder and Roma captain Daniele De Rossi.
De Rossi warned that bringing one of the best players in the world won't mean instant success in Europe for Juventus as both Ronaldo and his teammates will have to adapt to each other's style.
"Buying one of the top two players in the world means aiming even higher, but he’ll have to adapt and the team will have to adapt to him. Not everything is written, even if they’re a team who already had the advantage of being better than everyone else," De Rossi was quoted as saying by Goal.com.
“Now, with him, the objective is the Champions League, but it’s not written that they’ll win in Europe, just as it isn’t that they’ll win another league," he added.
Juventus have enjoyed incredible success in Italy, winning seven Serie A titles in a row. While their supreme reign in Italy remains unchallenged, Ronaldo's addition has raised the hopes of success in Europe.
The Portuguese has over the years created a brilliant reputation for him in European football. He is the all-time highest goal scorer in the Champions League and finished last season with a stunning 15 goals in the competition to take Real to their record third straight title. He has a total of five Champions League titles to his name, one with Manchester United and four with the Los Blancos.
Juventus will be hoping he can replicate his performances from Spain in the Juventus stripes. While, the likes of AS Roma, Napoli and the Milan outfits will be hoping Ronaldo's brilliance only declines with time.
