Comparing himself to Lord Shiva, who drank poison to save the world, Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy who broke down at a party meeting, saying he was not a happy man today said that the media misinterpreted his speech. Talking to ANI, Kumaraswamy said, “I didn't speak about Congress or any Congress leader. I didn't mention anything about Congress in my speech. That was a party program and I got emotional, Media misinterpreted my speech.
In his earlier statement, Kumaraswamy had said, ' I know the pain of coalition govt'. He was also unhappy with the number of seats his party won.
“I have swallowed poison like Lord Vishakantha,” Kumaraswamy had said at an event organised to felicitate him in Bengaluru. “You all are happy that I became the CM, but I’m not,” he told party workers.
Following the Assembly election in mid-May, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s BS Yeddyurappa was sworn in as the chief minister but was forced to resign two days later as his party did not have the numbers to prove its majority despite being the largest party by vote.
Amid high drama after the resignation of BS Yeddyurappa, the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) forged a post-poll alliance to form the government in Karnataka. HD Kumaraswamy took oath as the chief minister on May 23. Kumaraswamy said he is often greeted by people who thank him for the farm loan waiver.
Initially, Kumaraswamy faced a lot of opposition on farm loan waiver from within the government. He had announced Rs 34,000 crore loan waiver for farmers, capped at Rs 2 lakh and later an additional waiver of Rs 10,700 crore was announced after pressure from farmers’ associations.
