In a shocking incident, almost 100 trees were felled in the Kodugu district, ahead of the visit of Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. Notably, the chief minister is scheduled to visit the area for only one day. Even more shocking is the justification given by state authorities for this act, who claimed that “dangerous trees” had to be chopped off for the visit.
Meanwhile, environmental activists and opposition parties have demanded answers from the Kumaraswamy government over the apparent destruction of green cover in the region.
