Commenting on Mayawati’s statement on him that he is a “BJP agent”, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Wednesday said that only the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo can further clarify on her comment.
“Please ask her, as far as I am concerned, I had been one of the bitterest critics of Modi ji, Amit Shah ji, BJP and RSS. Rahul Gandhi is our Congress chief, we follow his directions,” ANI quoted Digvijaya Singh as saying.
"I've already made it clear that I respect Mayawati ji and has been in favour of Congress-BSP alliance from beginning. In Chhattisgarh, there were talks for alliance but she didn't go for it. In MP too there were talks of alliance, she declared 22 candidates," he further said.
Mayawati, earlier in the day, came out all guns blazing at veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh alleging that leaders like him “do not wish for a Congress-BSP alliance.
“Congress leaders like Digvijaya Singh do not wish for a Congress-BSP alliance. They are afraid of agencies like ED, CBI,” news agency ANI quoted Mayawati as saying.
She further alleged that Singh is a “BJP agent”.
“Digvijaya Singh who is also a BJP agent is giving statements that Mayawati ji has a lot of pressure from Centre so she doesn’t want this alliance. This is baseless,” BSP chief clarified.
“I feel that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi's intentions for Congress-BSP alliance are honest. However, some Congress leaders are sabotaging this” the news agency further quoted Mayawati as saying.
“They (Congress) are getting arrogant and are under misconception that they can defeat BJP on their own, but the ground reality is that people haven't forgiven Congress party for their mistakes and corruption...They don't seem to be ready to rectify themselves,” she said.
Giving a big jolt to the grand old party, she said that the BSP will fight Assembly elections in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on its own.
It is pertinent to mention here that before the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Congress party is trying to form a grand alliance. However, if BSP decides to remain out, this could affect the performance of the alliance.
