Haryana: Mosque in Palwal built with Lashkar-e-Taiba funds, NIA probe reveals; Khattar calls for proper investigation

A mosque in Haryana's Palwal district has come under the scanner of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after its probe found that it was allegedly built with funds from the Hafiz Saeed-led Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The Khulafa-e-Rashideen masjid in Palwal's Uttawar village was searched by NIA on October 3, days after three men, including the imam of the mosque, were arrested in Delhi in a case linked to alleged terror funding.

According to NIA, the imam of the masjid received Rs 70 lakh from a Dubai-based Pakistani citizen. The Imam, Mohd Salman received the money through hawala from Dubai.

"We believe that Kamran (Dubai-based Pakistani citizen) is working for LeT and also provides funds for terrorist activities in India," NIA spokesperson told news agency ANI.

The probe agency said it was questioning other people at the mosque and checking the account books.

Meanwhile, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said only a proper investigation could throw light on the matter.

"This issue has come to our notice. But only after investigations...what kind of issue it is (will be known) and whatever action will be needed, we will do that," Khattar told reporters in Palwal when asked for his comments on the issue.

He said the government's job was "to maintain a sense of security in the society and for this, if anyone does any wrongdoing, if anyone commits a crime, we will use any agency needed for investigations. But there is no question of misuse or targeting anyone.."
