Build Ram Mandir: Mohan Bhagwat Tells Centre

In a high-pitched political speech on Thursday, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat urged the government to bring a “requisite law” to pave the way for building Ram Mandir, saying it was essential from the self-esteem of the nation.

Giving his annual Vijayadashmi address, the last before the 2019 polls, Bhagwat stated that the issue of Ram Mandir is associated with sentiments of crores of Indians and there was sufficient evidence that a temple stood at the disputed spot before the Babri Masjid.

“A law should be brought in as people are questioning why the temple is not being built, despite their chosen government being in power. The decision regarding ownership of the land should be expedited, and the government should clear the path for construction of the grand temple through appropriate and requisite law,” he said.

Dubbing Babur as the destroyer of Ram Temple, the RSS chief said the case was getting delayed and the decision needs to be made soon. “Babur demolished Ram Mandir to trounce our self-respect. Foundations of the temple have been unearthed, but the case is getting delayed,” the RSS chief said.

He said Sangh has been associated with the sentiments of crores of countrymen, in the efforts of constructing a magnificent Ram temple at the birthplace of Ram, who is the “personification of the life energy of the nation and an icon of upholding Dharma”.

The Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit dispute is all slated for regular hearing before a three-judge bench of the top court from October 29.

The date of hearing was fixed when a then CJI Dipak Misra-led bench ruled last month that there was no need to reconsider the Ismail Faruqui judgment of 1994 which had stated that mosque is not integral to Islam and that it can be acquired by the state.

Bhagwat in his speech also alleged that there are elements who were halting the judgment process.

“There is an obvious game-plan of a few elements to stall the judgment by presenting various newer interventions in the judicial process. It is in nobody’s interest to test the patience of the society without any reason,” said Bhagwat.

In September, Bhagwat had stated in an event that building a Ram temple will only help in achieving communal harmony in the nation.

Taking the same stand and stating that the building the temple was “necessary from the self-esteem point of view,” the RSS supremo said, “it will also pave the way for an atmosphere of goodwill and oneness in the country. This matter of national interest is being obstructed by some fundamentalist elements and forces that play communal politics for selfish gains.”

In his speech, Bhagwat stated that many things “may seem impossible” but is “possible.”
