Buoyed by reports on its chances of wresting power and the seemingly widening difference between BJP's national and state leadership, the Congress in Rajasthan has decided to target Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. The strategy comes amid talks of Raje contesting from two seats for the December 7 polls.
On Wednesday, Congress president Rahul Gandhi will start his two-day campaign in Kota and Jhalawar districts where Raje and her MP son Dushyant Singh wield considerable influence. Just a fortnight ago, Gandhi had toured Dausa, Bharatpur and Dholpur along with state Congress chief Sachin Pilot.
"The Dholpur tour was a strategic intervention. There is a chance that Raje may switch to Dholpur's Rajakheda assembly constituency to contest the polls this time," a Congress leader said. Raje is the erstwhile queen of Dholpur where her palace is located.
Rahul will now return to campaign for the party in Jhalawar that has Raje's assembly seat. Raje has already won thrice from Jhalrapatan and this will be her fourth attempt from there. Sources said she could fight from two seats this time to be on the safe side.
However, BJP's Rajasthan in-charge Prakash Javadekar rejected the theory. "No minister in Raje government would be allowed to switch seats. They shall contest their own seat." While BJP president Amit Shah and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat have camped in Kota division to plan BJP's poll strategy, Raje has remained conspicuously absent from important meetings there.
