Clarify corruption charges levelled by Amit Shah: TMC MLA Subhranshu Roy to Mamata's nephew Abhishek

TMC MLA from Bijpur in North 24 district Subhranshu Roy, who is also the son of former TMC number two leader Mukul Roy has written a letter to Abhishek Banerjee who is TMC MP and nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying that he had ‘lost trust, faith and respect’ for Abhishek. Mukul Roy had quit TMC to join BJP.

The letter, written in English and on a plain paper was written on August 14, three days after the visit of Amit Shah to Bengal and while addressing a rally on August 11 he had alleged that Bengal was run by syndicates and that ‘Mamata and her nephew had siphoned off all the money that the Centre had granted for the welfare of the people of Bengal’.

Subhranshu, in the letter said he was shocked to hear Amit Shah levelling such allegations at Mayo Road and reading newspaper reports later that Abhishek indulged in corrupt practices. The letter said, ‘Amit Shah had disclosed that you were engaged in an illegal and corrupt practices and have mis-utilised the sum of Rs 3.59 thousand crore allotted by the Central government to the government of West Bengal’.

Expressing his dissatisfaction in the second paragraph of the letter, Subhranshu wrote, ‘After going through such reports I have doubts about your conduct and suspect that you may be involved in illegal and wrongful acts. I have lost my trust, faith and respect for you’.

Subhrangshu said he felt he needed to write the letter to Abhishek and thus had written it. “It is natural isn’t it to write to one’s leader if someone else comes and levels such serious allegations,” he said. Asked what had been Abhishek’s reaction to it, Subhranshu said it was party’s internal affairs and he would not like to talk about it to the media.

Abhishek was not available for comment but a senior leader of the party said that Subhranshu had done it in order to pave his way for defecting to BJP. “He is likely to follow the footsteps of his father Mukul Roy by trying to malign the party leaders and create an excuse for leaving TMC before shifting to BJP,” he said on condition of anonymity.

Subhranshu, however, brushed aside all such possibilities saying, “Leaving TMC is out of the question. My leader is Mamata Banerjee and I will be in the party as long as she wants me to be.”
